THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE VERY IMPORTANT!
SERIOUS INJURY COULD OCCUR IF THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE NOT FOLLOWED!
- One week before your appointment, come to our office to handle finances.
- IT IS VITAL THAT YOU HAVE NOTHING TO EAT OR DRINK FOR EIGHT (8) HOURS PRIOR TO YOUR SEDATION. TO DO OTHERWISE MAY BE LIFE THREATENING! No caffeine. No alcohol. No sedatives.
- However, it is important to take any regular medications (high blood pressure, antibiotics, etc.) If in doubt about any medications please call us. Have someone drive you to our office the day of your appointment.
- Please do not wear any perfume of cologne.
AFTER SEDATION INSTRUCTIONS
Patient cannot drive, operate machinery or undertake any activity that could be hazardous for 24 hours after sedation.
- A responsible adult should be with the patient until they have fully recovered from the effects of the sedation and should stay with the patient that evening.
- Patient should not go up or down stairs or walk unattended (support them at all times whether they want you to or not.) Let the patient stay on the ground floor until recovered.
- Patient should not undertake positions of responsibility, care of children, etc.
- Patient should not make important decisions, legal or monetary, etc. for 24 hrs after appointment.
- Patient should not have alcohol or other sedatives for 24hrs after appointment.
- Patient needs to drink plenty of fluids as soon as possible and may eat anything they are comfortable eating whenever they want.
- Patient may be sleepy for a long time or he/she may appear to be alert when he/she leaves the office. Attend to both alert and sleepy patients in the same manner. Do not trust them alone.
- Call us if you have any questions or difficulties. For emergencies, call our office 919-661-1995. If it is after hours call Dr. Cusumano directly at 919-819-4288. If you feel the patient’s symptoms warrant a physician, or if you are not sure and you are unable to reach us, call 911 immediately.
